DIRECTIONS: About sixteen miles on the South side of Acuña. Head south on the Highway toards Torreón and Saltillo, and about ten miles outside the city arches proclaiming Feliz Viaje, you’ll cross some railroad tracks. Follow the dirt road right, to the West, and it will take you to one of Mexico’s oldest National Parks, with an incredible variety of plants due to the mixing of the Coahuilan Desert with more northern species. Entrance is free, the park underwent major improvements in the access road in 2001, though it’s still gravel.

Baby Goats lose their skin in old Ranch-culture cook-off in
Parque Nacional "Balneario de los Novillos" (Novillos Nat'l Park)
Contestants compete in two categories; Cabrito Frito, a baby goat stew,
and in Campamiento (campground), which one one man wins each year
by constructing an entire restaurant and petting zoo.
Ok, so it's not politically correct, but it's a vivid portrait of pioneer local culture.
Doctor Brinkley says " In May, the competition has been held along the shores of Lake Amistad (Presa Amistad) and in a nearby park called Novillos (Balneario de Los Novillos), one of Mexico’s oldest Mexican National Parks, recently inmproved with facilities and a ecological center under construction. "

This excerpt from the work "The Two JRB's Tour Guide of Val Verde and Coahuila", where the ghosts of "Doctor" Brinkley and Judge Roy Bean lead us around West Texas and Mexico for some great Coahuilan desert snorkeling, might soon be released as a hardcover coffee table book, part of a publication on CD-ROM and with high-resolution multi-media; photographs, sound and music, filmclips, artwork, and textual ruminations.
